FAQ

What is a self-supported ride?

No support car. No water drops. No outside support - it’s all up to you to get to the finish!

In other words, all riders must be fully self-sufficient and not receive any private assistance. All food, lodging, etc. must be commercially available to all riders.

I have a personal tracker, will it work?

Only a SPOT tracker or Garmin InReach are supported by Follow My Challenge USA.

Can you ride with another rider but not finish with them?

If you choose pairs, you need to finish with the person, or you'll receive a DNF. You can still finish solo, but it won't be counted. Pairs can share resources and draft, so if you start with those benefits and end as a solo rider, it's not fair to those who were riding solo from the start.

Are you allowed to ride in larger groups than two? If so, do you have to finish with everyone you were grouped with?

Solo or pairs are the only two options. If you're thinking of signing up with a few friends, it would be advised to all sign up as solo. You'd have to adhere to the rules of self-sufficiency (no drafting or sharing resources), but you'd be able to ride amongst one another.

When the ride takes off, you'll notice packs start to form - people leapfrog one another and ride side-by-side at times. This is all OK and is a natural part of these events.

Is it OK to take longer than the allotted time frame?

Yes! If it takes you longer to complete the routes, that's no problem. Ride your own ride- it's your adventure.

Organizers will not be at the finish after the cut-off.

Do people ride continually, or sleep?

This is entirely up to you and how you’re feeling. This is very much your own adventure, and we’d encourage you to sleep when needed. Safety is important! If you start seeing unicorns and dragons, and are nodding off while riding; seriously consider pulling over to rest.
