Summary

This FKT is based on the honour system and GPS data. It's a direct-route from The Hawk Beach to Meat Cove Campground sign. All riders must travel in the South - North direction for this FKT.

The route is 750km, however to account for GPS errors, a minimum of 747km will be accepted. There is no cap on a longer route, however, it's in your best interest to not deviate too far from the original route.

Elevation: 7000 + m. Previous attempts have recorded 7, 270m and 7,011m, entirely dependent on GPS errors, and detours due to construction and resupply.

Rules for an FKT effort

- Any detour must be either the same length or longer than the original route. A finished route must not be less than 747km (adjusting for GPS errors).
- Ride must be recorded in full. Use a GPS device to track route, distance, total time, and speed. If you’re unsure if your GPS device can be used, reach out to verify. Manually uploaded statistics are not accepted - you need a recording of your track.
- The clock never stops! Elapsed time is valid; ride time is not.
- Deviations off route to resupply are OK. Get back onto the same route. If it’s not possible due to construction, take a detour that is the same length or longer than the original route.
- Use the same bike for the whole ride.
- Follow rules of the road. Respect other road users.
- Wear a helmet at all times. Reflective bits are highly recommended! You’ll be on busy highways (almost) the entire time.
There are two ways of attempting this FKT: self-supported or supported. There’s a HUGE difference between the two. Whichever you decide, stick with it the entire ride.
If you’re unclear on self-supported vs supported, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or clarifications.
Self-supported:
Do it all by yourself! No outside aid, no support vehicles or people meeting you along the way. Get from A to B with all the same gear, using services accessible to everybody. No drafting of any other rider or cars.
Supported:
Support vehicle and any other outside assistance is OK. Food, water, supply drops are all OK. You can not draft the car or any other rider.
Every rider takes a risk with this FKT. Be safe. Be smart. Highly recommend insurance from Cycling Nova Scotia in case any injuries or accidents occur. This is in no way a sanctioned event, rather your own undertaking at any time of year. Open to anyone.
Please let the organizers of Tip 2 Tip NS know your intent to ride at least two-weeks prior to starting.
Take some photos, challenge yourself, and have fun!
